As more and more people rebel against ticky-tacky, cookie-cutter homes, options are growing for more unique, satisfying dwellings. Popular Mechanics‘ Chris Sweeney has just put together a great list of 18 of the world’s strangest homes. And though there are arguably some even stranger ones out there (the toilet-shaped home, for one, or the coral castle), one of the things we like about Popular Mechanics’ list is a strong focus on sustainability.

The Age of Stupid, a fictionalized documentary by director Franny Armstrong, is a rueful look back at the present day from the perspective of the year 2055, when human civilization is all but destroyed by our inaction on global warming and climate change.

If you like your apocalypse served raw, The Age of Stupid may be the film for you. Despite its flaws, it delivers an important message about the perils of climate change in unambiguous terms. Whether the film will inspire anyone to make meaningful changes remains to be seen — The Age of Stupid is expected to open to wide U.S. release in 2010.

Folks everywhere are getting hip to reusable bags. Some retailers are starting to charge for their bags, and a few stores (like my local grocer) give a small discount to shoppers who bring their own bags.

Naturally, it was only a matter of time before entrepreneurs started marketing their own bags. ChicoBag has developed a complete line of reusables, including a messenger bag with some snappy features. But how did it hold up under close examination?
